This home renovation is soon to be lodged for Town Planning Application.
Challenge
The current extension to the rear of this fabulous double fronted family home dominates the ‘back yard’. The existing building form does not take into account the opportunities of an extensive northern exposure, nor does it acknowledge at the sloping site.
Design Solution – Catching the Sun
Optimising northern light, and complimenting the existing home, our design solution hugs the fall of the land and opens the home to northern light, outlook and open spaces.
The design solution enables a ‘split level’ arrangement of floor levels – engaging with the main floor level of the existing home, and stepping down to new living areas. These new areas include north facing living an dining areas, with kitchen and laundry beyond. These lower ground living areas open to the proposed terrace and BBQ area to the north of the site.
The main (original) level of the home will also lead up to a new loft area. This area can be used for sleeping and space for growing kids.
